The 2nd playoff between Islamabad United and the Peshawar Zalmi. The match largely became a one man show when ISLU opener Sharjeel Khan turned the playoffs into his own personal showcase. Getting a strong start, Sharjeel Khan decided to take the game to the opposition by hitting the Peshawar Zalmi bowlers all around the park. His destructive batting left the opposition bowling attack in distraught as they tried rectify the damage. Sharjeel Khan ended up with 117 runs to his name off just 62 balls. Islamabad United ended up with a good total of 176 runs off the allotted 20 overs.
Zalmi started off with the chase strongly with both openers getting runs on the board. Kamran Akmal was looking in good form when he hit Islamabad United’s pacer Mohammad Irfan for 14 runs in 1 over. However, some good bowling by Samuel Badree dismissed inform batsman Dawid Malan to bring the game back in ISLU’s favor. In the end, the run rate pressure got to the Zalmi batsmen who started to play rash shots in the hopes of keeping the required rate down. The last hope for Peshawar Zalmi came in the form of hard hitting middle order batsmen Darren Sammy and Shahid Afridi. However, the ISLU left arm spinner Imran Khalid ended that partnership with a brilliant bowl to Darren Sammy. The rest of the game followed the same rhythm as Zalmi lost wickets at regular intervals to give ISLU the win and a place in the HBL PSL finals.
