The last match of the qualifying rounds for the playoffs took place between Islamabad United and the Lahore Qalandars. ISLU had already qualified thanks to a superior head to head record. The match was a do or die situation for the Lahore Qalandars who needed a win to qualify for the HBLPSL playoffs.
The ISLU skipper, Misbah ul Haq won the toss and put the Qalandars in to bat first. The Islamabad United bowlers took the game to the Qalandar batsmen by taking 3 wickets in the first 3 overs. However, Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal, the two inform batsmen, steadied the Lahore innings by playing risk free shots. In the end, Lahore Qalandars ended up with a total of 150 in the allotted 20 overs.
The ISLU batting lineup, now strengthened by Dwayne Smith and Azhar Mahmood, sought to take the game away from the Qalandars from the onset of the innings. However, a few rash shots by the opening batsmen left them at 24 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Brad Haddin, one of the more experienced players in the ISLU dugout, brought some consistency to chaos. Together with Khalid Latif, the pair put on a 67 run partnership with Haddin going on to score a brilliant 50. In the end, the winning runs were scored by Misbah ul Haq, sealing the fate of the Lahore Qalandars.
